I have never talked to anyone. I am used to handling things on my own. Are people who go to therapy weak?

Not at all. People who ask for help know when they need it and have the courage to reach out. In our work together, I will help you identify your strengths and learn how to implement them to reduce the influence of the problems you are facing.

What is the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?

A licensed mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way while teaching you new skills to help you meet your goals. Furthermore, therapy is completely confidential. You won’t have to worry about others “knowing your business” and you do not have to worry about meeting other’s needs. The session is just for you!

Why shouldn’t I just take medication?

Medication can be effective but it alone cannot solve your issues. If you are motivated to get to the root of your issues then therapy is for you. Sometimes medication is needed in conjunction with therapy. Our work together is designed to explore and unpack the problems you are experiencing and expand on your strengths. The use of medication will be discussed, if necessary, but it is ultimately your choice as to how you want to proceed.

How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?

The first step is showing up for appointments and the second is being prepared with a topic that you want to discuss. I will tailor my therapeutic approach to your specific needs.

How long will it take?

Everyone’s circumstances are unique and the length of time therapy can take to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment to change and the factors that are driving you to seek therapy in the first place.

I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help?

I am so glad you are dedicated to getting the most out of your sessions. Your active participation and dedication to change will be crucial to your success.
